The history of labyrinths spans millennia. How is it that this archetypal symbol has been discovered in almost every known culture dating back prior to the Iron Age, to periods when communication and travel would have made the geographic spread of it impossible? Follow this fascinating journey through archaeology, astronomy, mythology, sacred geometry, art & architecture and various spiritual traditions as they combine to slowly reveal the profound impact that this icon has had on human civilization.

This lecture will also explore the differences between the labyrinth and the maze and visit some of the world's oldest hedge and turf mazes. Begun as a form of entertainment for kings and nobility, mazes too have enjoyed a renaissance in the last 25 years. Many ingenious modern designs, humorous interpretations and mazes-with-a-twist will be highlighted.
